#SKINFORMED / Hyperpigmentation on sensitive skin

Marina S., 33 years old

Skin type : Combination

Main challenges with the skin : Brown spots (from the sun, pregnancy, hormonal contraceptives...), skin texture (pores), dehydration (flaking and tightening), surface wrinkles, reactive (intolerant) skin

"My skin is combination, normal to dry on my cheeks, while my T-zone gets oily. It's also dehydrated, which can be seen by the shallow lines on my cheeks, which are even more pronounced when I smile. It's prone to irregularities and my pores get clogged easily it clogs up if I don't take care of it properly. It is very sensitive (it literally gets very red after washing) and prone to pigmentation. What bothers me the most is that the skin on my face is always a shade or two darker than the rest of my body, even though I use SPF daily. I would like to work on dehydration, improve the skin texture and even out the complexion so that there is no more pigmentation , i.e. that it has a healthy color."

Treatment of hyperpigmentation on sensitive skin

For sensitive and reactive skin, it is most important to find products that have a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin, mild formulations without active ingredients and a generally minimalist routine to prevent any potential negative skin reaction. The problem arises when sensitive skin has additional irregularities, such as Marina's described hyperpigmentation, and it is difficult for her to find products that will make a visible difference, while at the same time their formula is gentle enough not to irritate already reactive skin.

Superba C is a powerful antioxidant serum with vitamin C that helps even skin tone and reduces the appearance of blemishes. Although it is a potent product, Superba C is a suitable treatment product for sensitive skin because the carefully designed formula contains a derivative of vitamin C, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, which is more stable and tolerable on sensitive skin compared to ascorbic acid, and at the same time it is not photosensitizing and can be used during whole year. Vitamin C acts as a melanin inhibitor, has a strong antioxidant effect, helps with minor irregularities and refreshes the skin. For Marina, we recommend using Superba C in the evening routine, because the texture of Solar I fluid will be enough for her mixed to oily skin during the day.

Superb C ideal antioxidant protection below SPF

Solar I is a light, moisturizing fluid that has SPF30 and provides protection against a wide spectrum of UV radiation (UVA+UVB). With SPF, it is important that it is applied in an adequate amount and reapplied regularly, in order to provide you with maximum protection and prevent spots from darkening. In addition, with skin prone to hyperpigmentation spots, it is important to stay away from the sun and additionally protect the skin with sunglasses and hats. Apart from the fact that Solar I protects against the sun and premature signs of aging, it has a strong antioxidant effect, and its light texture deeply hydrates and softens the skin, without feeling heavy or greasy, which makes it an ideal day cream for dehydrated skin.

Finally, we would definitely recommend the CICA-CERA cream. It is a very gentle protective cream rich in panthenol, glycerin and ceramides that hydrates and softens the skin and strengthens its protective barrier to make it more resistant and less prone to breakouts. CICA-CERA helps in the short term with dehydration lines and a feeling of skin tightening. It also contains a soothing CICA complex of ingredients suitable for skin prone to irritation and redness.

Cheek pores and scars

Marina has enlarged pores on her cheeks, which represent the normal function of the skin on the oilier parts, but in addition to the pores on the skin, we also see depressions that are the result of some past acne. This is specifically an "icepick" type of atrophic scars which, due to their diameter, can be mistaken for enlarged pores, but they are quite deep and unfortunately cosmetic products cannot repair them. When repairing scars, consultation with a dermatologist is recommended, who will recommend appropriate treatment such as dermapen and microneedling.

With sensitive skin, soothing care with as few products as possible is always a priority, but a specifically formulated product like Superba C can be tolerated on sensitive skin for a targeted effect on hyperpigmentation, without additional irritation.
